Medicines for clinics in rural areas – Order of Malta of El Salvador

We are cooperating with the National Association of El Salvador of the Order of Malta, a non-profit dedicated to helping low-income people with basic needs. As part of its efforts, the association operates five clinics in rural areas of El Salvador, where they treat around 120,000 patients a year. The program was established in 1975 and to date has treated more than five million patients. On this occasion, we are helping to finance the purchase of medicines for their clinics. Last year, we made a donation of €8,000, which corresponds to approximately one month’s budget for medicines for the five clinics. This time, we would like to increase this amount and cover at least two months.

With your help, we can change the lives of thousands of patients who otherwise would not be able to afford access to medicines. Any contribution, regardless of the amount, goes a long way toward achieving our goal of supporting them. We also appreciate you sharing this campaign to reach as many people as possible.

Medicines for low blood pressure, diabetes, and hypothyroidism

Vilma is 62 years old. She has low blood pressure, diabetes, and hypothyroidism. Vilma used to operate a small corner shop where she sold mainly charamuscas (typical Salvadoran soft drink) and other products. Given her heart condition, she had to stop working. Her heart works at 35 percent of its normal capacity.

We have successfully financed and delivered the medicines that Vilma needed for her blood pressure. On this occasion we want to finance medicines that Vilma needs for her hypothyroidism: Euthyrox (to treat hypothyroidism), Intrafer (against anemia), Glucerna (to strengthen her cardiovascular health), and Benzoclid Duo (to alleviate gastrointestinal problems). The monthly cost of the medicines is 69.49 USD. Our goal is to finance at least six months of treatment – 416.94 USD. With your help, we can ensure that Vilma has access to the medicines she needs. The costs are a significant financial burden given the income level of her household. Therefore, your donations are important not only for her health but also for the financial stability of her family.

Every contribution counts. We would also be grateful if you share this campaign with other people you think would be interested in

Treatment against dystonia

Alexa is 4 years old. Her favorite pastime is to play shop with her dad. She also likes to play with her dog Duke. Her most beloved foods are chicken and cereal with yoghurt. Her favorite TV shows are Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol.

Alexa suffers from dystonia, which causes tremors in her arms. We have previously financed a magnetic resonance ($550 including anesthesia costs) and a neonatal screening ($321) needed to diagnose the cause of her condition. Given that the results were inconclusive, the doctor has prescribed an uptake of antibodies against NMDA receptors in cerebrospinal fluid and plasma. The cost of the exam is $1200. In addition, Alexa needs Levodopa-Cardibopa to treat the tremors in her arms, which her parents are not able to find in public pharmacies. The monthly cost of the medicine is $28.57. In this occasion, our goal is to finance the costs of the exam and the medicament for 1 year, which has been prescribed for the foreseeable future and amounts to $1,542.84. The costs are a significant financial burden given the income level of her household. Therefore, your donations are important not only for her health but also for the financial stability of her family.

Every contribution counts. We would also be grateful if you share this campaign with other people you think would be interested in donating.

General fund

Here you can also make a donation to our general fund, which we use for the purchase of the medicines of all our beneficiaries. The funds collected in this campaign are assigned in equal shares to all campaigns that have not reached their funding goal. Currently, we have 3 individual campaigns for which we are raising funds and have not met the goal yet. All funds in excess of our current needs are used to expand the reach of our program.
